Melbourne’s Bar Lourinhã will turn up the heat (and the music) on Wednesday 22 November, with a one-off crab y cava dinner fiesta. Chef and co-owner Matt McConnell has taken inspiration from his cultural homes, Portugal and Spain, to produce the night’s shared feast, featuring eight courses with crab.
The Mediterranean riff on Champagne with lobster will see the flavours of Portugal and Spain collide with Catalonia’s famed fizz, paired with crab in many delicious incarnations – croquetas, bocadillos, chilli-roasted and straight up with peas and truffle.
The fiesta will unveil Bar Lourinhã’s new downstairs banquette seating, currently under refurbishment. The original high tables will be removed and replaced with the banquettes, seating up to twenty.
Bar Lourinhã, which celebrated its tenth birthday last year with an upstairs refit by Pascale Gomes-McNabb, is founded on the Mediterranean spirit for eating and drinking. The Melbourne institution is a hot spot for share-friendly, Iberian-leaning plates, all-day and late-night trading, colourful drinks and a trim European-loving wine list.
“Turning 10 last year was a personal achievement for all of us,” says McConnell. “We went in with so much passion and we had no idea Bar Lourinhã would be there the next week, let alone the next month. It’s a catalyst to do more and look for more ways to have fun with our guests. And what’s more fun than crab and cava?”
