Melbourne’s Spanish-Portuguese institution Bar Lourinhã will travel across the Mediterranean to embrace all things Hellenic on 6 March, with a vibrant Greek taverna party alongside their friend Captain Moonlite.
Matt Germanchis, chef and co-owner of Anglesea’s Captain Moonlite, will join Bar Lourinhã’s Matt McConnell for one night only to create a collaborative family-style feast, nodding to Germanchis’ Greek roots and exploring the pair’s memories of the Aegean.
37 Little Collins St will transform into a true Greek taverna with sights and sounds emblematic of the Greek islands, alongside all the edible makings of a good night: ouzo libations, share-style mezedes and modern plates including grilled octopus and wild greens, and plenty of Assyrtiko.
“We’ve developed a menu inspired by our travels with flavours that are close to our hearts,” says McConnell. “We’ve had a lot of requests from guests to revive our long table diners, which we started 10 years ago. Hopefully this collaboration will be the first of many to come.”
The $95 ticket price is inclusive of a shared feast, Greek wine, ouzo, plate smashing and dancing. Bring on your inner Zorba.
