Aria celebrates 20 years of sharing fine dining, exceptional wine and amazing views with Sydney
10 September 2019
Matt Moran’s Aria Sydney is celebrating 20 years of fine dining, a world-class wine list and stunning harbour views. Since its opening in December 1999, Aria’s unrivalled harbourside location and consistent approach to elevated yet approachable food, wine and service has seen the restaurant remain at the pinnacle of Australian fine dining.
Over the years, and under the watchful eye of Matt Moran, Aria has been the breeding ground for many young chefs, sommeliers and service staff now with successful careers of their own. Included in this impressive role call of alumni is Matt Abé, Chef de Cuisine at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Porteno’s Elvis Abrahanowicz, who started his career as an apprentice at Aria, Tom Haynes, Executive Chef at Barangaroo House and current sommelier Alex Kirkwood coming into his tenth year within the Solotel family.
When asked why he believes Aria has stood the test of time, despite the challenges of running a successful restaurant of its scale, Matt Moran said “For me, Aria has always been the synergy of all the things you’re looking for when you dine out. The harbour views, the food, the wine, the service, the acoustics - it’s the full experience. We’ve certainly evolved over the years but have always retained those elements at our core.”
In celebration of the significant milestone and of the Sydney community who have played a part in shaping the notable restaurant, Aria will serve a custom eight-course tasting menu for the month of October that brings back some of the restaurants most beloved dishes from the past 20 years. Executive Chef, Joel Bickford will produce his modern interpretation of Moran’s famous peking duck consommé from 2000, Kurobuta pork with apple from 2004 and the champagne lobster with brioche and caviar from 2016.
Later that month, Aria will invite Sydney to a lavish birthday party, hosted by Matt Moran. The $350 ticketed progressive dining experience will take place on Wednesday 23 October, commencing with cocktails and canapés before a sit down dinner in the dining room. The five-course dinner will celebrate Joel’s take on iconic Aria dishes with matching drinks alongside speeches from co-owners Matt Moran and Bruce Soloman. The evening will conclude with after-dinner cocktails in a custom Aria lounge created especially for the night.
The celebrations will culminate with New Year’s Eve, 20 years after Aria’s initial opening, to ring in 2020. Known for its signature New Year's Eve experience and spectacular views of the Sydney Harbour fireworks, the 2020 package valued at $2,020 will offer an incredibly luxe and elevated experience, including an eight-course tasting menu with matching wines, caviar, lobster, Krug on arrival, terrace access for the 9pm and midnight fireworks and a take home gift pack including breakfast for the next morning with Aria granola, home-made bread, juices and more.
