One of Australia’s most loved regional food festivals leads the way in sustainability
17 December 2018
Now in its 28th year, Australia’s longest-running regional food festival, Orange F.O.O.D Week, is returning in 2019 with provenance and sustainability at its core.
The ten-day festival from Friday 5 to Sunday 14 April will include over 70 events which showcase more than 40 cellar doors and farm gates during the region’s autumn harvest and vintage, continuing its tradition as one Australia’s most loved food and wine festivals.
Orange F.O.O.D Week is continuing its regional ‘war on waste’, setting a global standard for festival sustainability as the first ISO 2-121-certified food and wine event in Australia. The festival is looking closely at waste reduction, as well as identifying all contributors to its total CO2 emissions. The festival’s organising committee has implemented a sustainable management system, which includes composting, water refill stations, and bans on plastic and polystyrene at the signature night markets.
President of Orange F.O.O.D Week, James Sweetapple says: “We’re so proud to be able to open the gates to our region, and showcase our local produce in a vibrant atmosphere, where producers are literally bringing in the bounty straight from the farm gate to the table.”
The festival continues to promote the region’s amazing producers, chefs, cooks, winemakers, butchers, shops with local produce, cafes, restaurants and all other food, wine and drink outlets.
Signature events of the 2019 F.O.O.D Week program include the Autumn Grazing Dinner in Blayney, FORAGE, F.O.O.D Train, F.O.O.D Week Night Markets and F.O.O.D HQ. Festival-goers are encouraged to become Friends of F.O.O.D to gain exclusive access to pre-sale tickets for the festival’s signature events – with 1,500 tickets to FORAGE selling out within 10 minutes during the public sale last year. The full festival program will be released online on Friday 21 December.
